Privacy
The short version: we don’t track you, and we don’t share or sell anything to third parties.
What we don’t do
- We don’t track logged-in users’ specific searches or which gifs they viewed.
- We don’t share or sell any of your data with any third party. Ever.
- We don’t use ad networks or third-party hosted analytics services.
Search history
Your gif search history is stored only in your local browser (or local app storage on iOS). It never leaves your device.
IP addresses
We log IP addresses on incoming requests for security reasons (abuse detection, rate limiting). These logs are retained for no more than 30 days, after which they are deleted.
Account data
If you sign up, we store your email address privately so you can sign in and recover your account. Your email is never shared.
Your favourites are stored against your account so that personalised search works (your favourites bubble to the top of results).
Each gif has a global use count — an aggregate tally of how many times anyone has shared it. We do not store which user shared a gif, when they shared it, or from which device. It’s a single counter on the gif, not a per-user history.
If you upload a gif, the upload is attributed to your account so that you (and admins) can find and manage gifs you contributed. This attribution is not shown publicly.
Analytics
The web app loads Plausible’s web SDK for aggregate page-view counts, but it’s pointed at a self-hosted Plausible instance we run ourselves — data never leaves our infrastructure. No cookies, no visitor identification, no third-party data flow.
